Daphne Bom took the occassion as an opportunity to tryout that which she most likes to do. Why not? The situation allowed for it. She was an invited guest, in great company, with a glass or two of champagne. Prepared as always; in her bag, a ready supply of blank postcards and something to draw with: a ball-point pen.

Daphne Bom uses a combination of both sketch and text, with the intention of documenting the facts; in time and atmosphere.

PRIZE-GIVING
ceremony

Daphne Bom was invited to the prize-giving ceremony of the Prix de Rome 2006, as a friend of Eva Pfannes; one of the 4 contenders for this prestigious prize.

A formal affair by Dutch standards. The build-up of tension
felt, through ceremonial delay.

During this time, as the attitude of the contenders is most likely to be; in competitive and defensive mode. What can one do as a contender, with the critisms announced by the presentors of the jury opinion?
Those that pass, through the one ear of the contender, and out the other?

No way to take notes.

Daphne Bom acting as objective observer and documenting with the focus on Eva Pfannes.

Good report.
